Friday September 20, 2019-Nominated MP Maina Kamanda may have been after all sent by President Uhuru Kenyatta to Raila Odinga's Capitol Hill offices on Thursday, a number of aides have confirmed.
In a tweet, Raila Odinga's spokesman Dennis Onyango suggestively said the meeting had a blessing from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Onyango further said, the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga could turn into a political coalition in future.
"What’s happening is that Handshake has a candidate in Kibra. It will have in future elections too," he said.
Onyango claim was shared by Philip Nyamai, another aide in Mr Odinga's Capitol Hill offices, who claimed Kamanda was deployed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to assure Raila of his support.
"He was not here by chance nor was it on his own volition but as a representative of President Kenyatta. No wonder he referred to Mr. Imran Okoth as handshake candidate," he said.
In yet another unprecedented move, Kamanda walked to Odinga's offices and declared support for Imran Okoth, despite Uhuru endorsing retired footballer McDonald Mariga for Kibra by-election the previous day.
Battle lines have been drawn in Kibra, in a duel that could yet again see Mr Odinga and DP William Ruto battle for supremacy. Kibra has traditionally backed Mr Odinga.
