Tuesday September 17, 2019 - President Uhuru Kenyatta has surprised the Jubilee Party’s top brass after he refused to be the chief guest during the unveiling of Jubilee Party candidate, Macdonald Mariga, as the ruling party candidate in the looming Kibra by -election.

Last week, Jubilee Party Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, wrote to the President and begged him to be the chief guest of the function to unveil Mariga.

But Uhuru, in a fast response, told Tuju that he is busy pushing for development and other important State functions and he will not be available for the function.

He also told Tuju that he doesn’t want to engage in politicking and he wants to ensure he accomplishes his Big Four agenda for Kenyans before he retires in 2022.

Mariga, who is closely sheltered by Deputy President William Ruto and former Kakamega Senator, Dr Boni Khalwale, will now be facing off with political heavy weights like Bernard Imran Okoth of ODM and Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate, Eliud Owalo.

The Kibra seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth.

The by-election will be held on November 7th.
