Wednesday September 4, 2019 - Senate Majority Leader, Kipchumba Murkomen, has said that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not aware of the ongoing eviction in Mau Forest.
In a Press Conference on Wednesday, Murkomen, who is also the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, said Uhuru learnt of the eviction from the media like any other Kenyan and he was not briefed by Environment Cabinet Secretary, Keriako Tobiko and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, George Natembeya.
According to Murkomen, the ongoing evictions were planned and executed by Tobiko and Natembeya without the approval of the President.
“I dare say that Keriako Tobiko should be called out for insubordinating the President & carrying out processes that have not been approved by the Government of Kenya," Murkomen said.
"The Government of Kenya has not approved any evictions! I say it with authority that President Uhuru or Cabinet have not approved any eviction or closure of schools," Murkomen added.
Despite the theatrics behind the Mau Forest evictions, Uhuru and his deputy, William Ruto, are yet to come out explicitly over the matter that has divided Rift Valley leaders.
