Monday September 16, 2019 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now believe that Sarah Wairimu Cohen and businessman, Peter Karanja, are the chief suspects in the murder of Dutch Tycoon, Tob Cohen.
Cohen disappeared on July 19th and according to his wife Sarah, he went on a golf trip in Thailand.
However, detectives discovered the body of Cohen inside a septic tank in his Kitisuru home on Friday.
According to DCI detectives, it is Wairimu’s WhatsApp messages that led detectives to Cohen’s body.
Wairimu, who was in custody, had refused to give her phone’s pin number and screen pattern - thus denying forensic experts a chance to analyse her data.
However, using technology from an Israeli firm, the detectives were able to track Sarah Wairimu’s WhatsApp messages and this helped the detectives arrest Peter Karanja – the ex-husband of Gilgil MP, Martha Wangari.
In one of the WhatsApp conversations, Wairimu who was detained at Muthaiga Police Station told Karanja to switch off his two phones and “buy mulika mwizi” because detectives were on his trail.
In another WhatsApp communication on the evening of July 20th Sarah asks Mr Karanja:
“How is your hand now, is it improving?”
Mr Karanja replied:
“It is improving.”
Detectives believe that one of Karanja’s hands was hurt while killing the old man.
