Mugirango MP, Silvanus Osoro, is a troubled man after his political
outfit Kenya National Congress (KNC), on Sunday, instructed the Registrar of Political
Parties to deregister him from the Party roll over alleged failure to comply by
the party's regulation.
The first time MP has been
accused of promoting the political interests of another party contrary to the
party's manifesto and also failing to participate in KNC party matters.
This is set to be a blow
to Deputy President William Ruto with the young legislator being one
of the most vocal supporters of his 2022 presidential ambitions.
The letter signed by KNC’s
Secretary-General James Ogembo reads, “We hereby instruct your office to remove
from KNC party register the name of Sylvanus Osoro, KNC member No.
KNCKS1000077.”
Reports have it that the
legislator has been in the party's crosshairs several times with the party's
National Executive Council (NEC) summoning him to defend his alleged
non-compliance, with party leader Manson Nyamweya complaining that he has
consistently declined to obey party rules.
“The NEC sitting has noted with concern your
continued disregard of your signed and notarised pledged code of conduct with
the party. This is despite your appearance before the NEC where you promised to
abide by the party rules and Political Parties Act, 2012. Thus far nothing has
changed.” Stated the letter written to the MP on May 15.
In the same letter, he was
asked to show cause as to why he should not be deregistered from the party
membership list.
One of his infractions was
pushing for the candidature of DP Ruto in 2022 without the party explicitly
setting its interest in the matter.
The other was
non-compliance in remitting monthly subscriptions to the party. He is accused
of failing to instruct the Clerk of the National Assembly to effect monthly
subscriptions to the party following the signed pledge of commitment.
His dalliances with the
Deputy President have placed him at loggerheads within and without the party.
