Friday September 20, 2019 - Deputy President William Ruto has responded to Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, who hurled insults at him during an ODM rally in Kibra on Monday.

Owino, who was campaigning for ODM’s candidate, Imran Okoth, used unprintable words and accused the DP of scuttling the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga.

The first term MP also accused Ruto of betraying President Uhuru Kenyatta by fielding a candidate in the November 7th by-election.

Ruto’s candidate is football star, Macdonald Mariga.

However in response, Ruto said the handshake did not mean killing political parties and defended President Kenyatta for supporting Mariga in the same way that other party leaders have done.

“The handshake was never meant to kill parties or replace competitive multi-party democracy."

"Those ranting about our party leader endorsing our party candidate should give us a break."

"So it is right for all others to endorse theirs and wrong for JUBILEE. Fisi angojea mkono ya mtu story,” Ruto said.

The DP maintained that the handshake remains intact despite Uhuru fielding a candidate in Kibra and Raila doing the same.
