Tuesday September 24, 2019 - As the deadline for exchanging the old Sh 1,000 notes with the new generation ones approaches, politicians are coming out with methods of disposing the old money without being noticed by the Central Bank of Kenya.
On June 1st, the Central Bank set the end of September (a week from now) as the expiry date of the old Sh1,000 notes.
To beat the deadline, politicians led by Deputy President William and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, have come up with a strategy by circumventing the financial procedures laid by CBK.
The two protagonists, through their lieutenants are dishing out old notes to churches, youth and women during their campaigns in Kibra.
The lieutenants have embarked on door to door campaigns, dishing out bundles of the old notes ahead of the demonetization deadline.
The Kibra-by election is slated for November 7th.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth in July.
Ken succumbed to Colorectal Cancer.
