Tuesday, September 10, 2019 - Jubilee Party Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, has endorsed footballer, McDonald Mariga’s candidature in the upcoming Kibra by-election.

The former Kenyan international midfielder was officially cleared on Tuesday to fly the Jubilee Party flag in the mini-poll.

While handing him the certificate at the Party’s headquarters, Tuju said:

“We wish you all the best at the battleground and we will support you,”

This comes barely a week after Tuju dismissed a letter bearing his signature that had endorsed a Mariga candidature.

“Some busy body somewhere is trying to do something I don’t understand. I will investigate,” Tuju said when asked about the letter.

Many believe that Mariga is backed by Deputy President William Ruto who has already hit the ground campaigning for him.

Actually, some Jubilee MPs have vowed to campaign for an ODM candidate to protest Mariga’s candidature.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth and the by-election is shaping up to be a political duel between DP Ruto and ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

The battle lines are now drawn for a showdown between ODM candidate, Imran Okoth, and Jubilee’s Mariga in the by-election slated for November 7th.
