Friday September 6, 2019 - National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, is burning the midnight oil meeting Members of the County Assemblies (MCAs) trying to convince them not to support Punguza Mzigo Initiative.

On Thursday evening, Raila met members of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) where he begged them to oppose the popular imitative by Third Way Alliance party leader, Dr Ekuru Aukot, and instead support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"Raila assured Members of the County Assemblies of his support for wards to be the units of development in the country as part of the effort to strengthen devolution," Raila’s press secretary, Dennis Onyango, said in a statement.

Third Way Alliance party chairman, Miruru Waweru, has hit out at Raila Odinga and accused him of hypocrisy for supporting the establishment of the ward as the unit of development, when he has been at the forefront in opposing Punguza Mizigo Bill which has made a similar proposal.

“Raila Odinga wacha unafiki (stop hypocrisy), your suggestion to use the ward as the unit of development is not a new discovery, it is already in the #PunguzaMizigoBill2019 that you are vehemently opposed to,” Waweru said.

The Punguza Mzigo Initiative has already been taken to 16 County Assemblies and on Tuesday, Uasin Gishu became the first County Assembly to endorse it after 46 MCAs voted for it.
