Friday September 13, 2019 – The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, has formed a special team of detectives that will investigate whether Members of the County Assemblies will be bribed to accept or reject the Punguza Mzigo Initiative.
On Thursday, Third Way Alliance party leader, Dr Ekuru Aukot, claimed that Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, compromised MCAs in Kirinyaga to reject the Punguza Mzigo initiative.
Impeccable sources said the Governor, who is one of the most corrupt Governors in Kenya, bribed MCAs with millions of shillings to reject the initiative that is supported by majority of Kenyans.
Aukot also claimed that Raila Odinga has been meeting MCAs at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi where he is giving them handouts to reject the initiative.
The DCI has now formed a special team that will investigate the MCAs’ bank accounts, telephone records, MPesa records in order to ensure that there is no MCA who is compromised to accept or reject the initiative.
The Punguza Mzigo Bill is seeking to reduce the number of representatives in Parliament and have a 7 year-one term presidency.
Aukot said that the country will save at least Sh3.8 billion annually should the proposal to slash the number of national legislators from the current 416 to 147 is adopted.
The Bill further proposes the election of two representatives of either gender from the country’s 47 Counties in a bid to bridge the gender gap and conform to the two thirds gender rule constitutional requirement.
The initiative is also seeking to use each of the 1,450 wards as the primary unit of accelerated development, replacing the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
