Wednesday September 11, 2019 - Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has not been seen in public or attended a function from the day he was summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over corruption allegations.
Governor Sonko is facing twin investigations - one where the County is accused of failing to remit taxes to the Kenya Revenue Authority and another by the EACC for allegedly receiving kickbacks after awarding garbage collection tenders to some cartel.
In the garbage tender, Sonko received kickbacks worth Sh 20 million to award a tender worth Sh 357 million.
EACC has traced the money into one of Sonko’s bank accounts.
It is just a matter of time before the flamboyant Governor is arrested and prosecuted.
As a result of the shock from these two cases, Sonko has retreated to his Machakos home where he is praying to God to save him from the guillotine.
“He was here over the weekend and he prayed overnight.”
“He was crying loudly as he prayed,” said one of the workers.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have put pressure on the Nairobi Governor to name his deputy as fast as possible before he is sent to jail over misappropriation of public funds.
