Friday September 6, 2019 - A popular Citizen TV journalist has said that he fears for his life after receiving several threatening messages on his phone.
Addressing journalists at his office in Kilimani on Friday, Citizen TV reporter, Stephen Letoo, said that he was headed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) branch in Narok and later to the hqs along Kiambu Road, to report the case.
Letoo narrated that his coverage of the second phase of the controversial Mau evictions occasioned the death threats from unidentified disgruntled people interested in the matter.
"It is true, my life is in danger, my home was attacked in the village yesterday, now I'm fearing that they are coming for me," Letoo said.
The captivating journalist added that he was not taking the matter lightly but and was already taking serious precautions.
“I am going to the CID headquarters at 2 pm," he stated.
Some powerful politicians in Rift Valley are said to be behind the threats because they are opposed to the ongoing Mau Forest eviction.
One such politician is Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen.
Murkomen is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.
