Wednesday, September 11, 2019- The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has sent a message of best wishes and blessings to President Uhuru Kenyatta and the people of and the People of the Republic of Kenya.

The Holy Father sent the message as he overflew Kenya on his way back to Rome after his three-nation visit of Mozambique, Madagascar and Mauritius.

In the message recorded by Kenya’s Air Traffic Control (ATC), Pope Francis said:

“President Uhuru Kenyatta, I offer my cordial best wishes to you and the People of Kenya as I return to Rome after my Apostolic visit in Mozambique, Madagascar and Mauritius.

“Upon all of you, I invoke blessings of peace and well-being,”

The Pope arrived in Maputo, Mozambique on September 4 for a 5-day tour of sub-Saharan Africa that saw him spend two days in Madagascar before completing his tour in Mauritius.

In November 2015, Pope Francis visited Kenya in his first tour of Africa making him the second pontiff to visit the country after Pope John Paul II, who visited Kenya a record three times.

During his visit, the 81-year old Argentinean pontiff made a plea against corruption, describing it as a “path to death” as he spoke to thousands of young people in Kenya.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church compared corruption with eating sugar.

 “We like it. It’s easy,”

“And then we end up in a bad way. So much sugar that we end up being diabetic or our country ends up being diabetic.” He said in front of President Uhuru at a rally in Nairobi to a warm applause.
