Wednesday September 4, 2019 - Jubilee candidate in the Kibra by-election, Macdonald Mariga, may find his candidature terminated by the party after details emerged that he not a registered voter in Kenya.
According to Peter Kinyanjui, who was among the 16 aspirants interviewed by Jubilee’s National Elections Board (NEB), Mariga is not a registered voter in Kenya and his voter’s card may have been forged by Jubilee Party operatives.
In a petition he filed at the High Court on Tuesday, Kinyanjui said Mariga has never participated in any voting exercise in Kenya and should not be the person tol fly the ruling party’s flag in Kibra.
Sources said Mariga was listed as a voter in Kariakor only two weeks ago and his name is not among gazetted Kibra voters by IEBC.
Additionally, Mariga may not be considered a registered voter in Kenya just yet because the updated register has not been gazetted as required by law.
The last time IEBC gazetted voters was in 2017 before the General Elections.
