Monday, September 02, 2019-Former Harambee Stars midfielder, McDonald Mariga, has refuted reports that he is being groomed by Jubilee Party honchos to vie for the upcoming Kibra parliamentary by-election.

The 32-year old on Monday presented his papers at the Jubilee Headquarters for nomination, confirming speculation that he was keen on joining active politics.

Mariga also dismissed reports that DP William Ruto is the one pushing him to contest for the seat that fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth, who recently, succumbed to cancer.

The speculations have been further fueled by Mariga’s perceived close relationship with Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking to journalists after presenting his nomination papers, Mariga said:

“I am not being used by anyone, I made this decision with my family, so here I am. Let’s see how it goes,”

“I am not anyone’s project and I will support whoever wins since I was born and raised in Kibra,” he added.

On the same breath, Mariga, who has had a colorful football career-including winning the coveted UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010, remained non-committal on whether this marks the med of his football career.

He’s currently unattached since being released by Spanish club Real Oviedo sometime last year.
