Thursday September 19, 2019-Ex-footballer, McDonald Mariga, could be the
next MP for Kibra after all going by the recent statement from former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga’s friend, Otiende Amollo.
Speaking on Wednesday,
Amollo, who is the sitting Rarieda MP, admitted that the former footballer
could become the next Kibra MP, but warned that electing Mariga would be a big
mistake.
He mocked Mariga's
credentials, taking issue with the fact that he has never voted and is also not
a registered Kibra voter.
He claimed that in the
event he carries the day, Mariga will go in history as the first MP who has
never voted, adding that he might be a representative of another person in the
race.
"He has never voted or
found it necessary to. He is not registered in Kibra, has never found it
necessary to register. He will be the first MP who has never voted. It seems he
was just persuaded to participate," he said
Mariga's candidature has
been under questioning from pundits and rival politicians, considering that to
most he appears unqualified and most likely another person's puppet.
Nonetheless, Amollo mocked
the former Inter Milan player for his poor communication skills, noting that he
lacks ideologies, his only excuse for running for Kibra being to "give
back to the society".
"The only thing he
says is that he wants to give back to the society. He was once the highest paid
player in Kenya, earning I think about Sh14 million and never gave back, what
can he give now as an MP receiving half a million?" he posed.
