Monday September 16,2019-Former Starehe MP, Maina Kamanda, has said the Mt Kenya region will not support Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential quest in 2022 even if he threatens the electorate with a gun.
Addressing journalists after he was chased away from a church function in Nanyuki on Sunday, Maina maintained that Mt Kenya region is solidly behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and no amount of intimidation will make the voters change their stand.
"We only have one president and that is Uhuru Kenyatta. Let him be given time to serve his second term as he focuses on development and service delivery. Those going round should stop,” Maina said.
“We will not be forced to give you votes even at gunpoint. We also have our leaders as it is in other tribes. Our leader, Uhuru, will give us direction when the time comes,” Maina added.
Maina spoke after a tense church function where demonstrators accused the 68 year old politician of frustrating young leaders from Mt Kenya.
“Maina stop fighting your grandchildren,” one protester roared.
