Thursday September 5, 2019 - Government Spokesman, Cyrus Oguna, has shocked Kenyans after saying that the ongoing Mau evictions were approved by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet.
Addressing a Press Conference on Thursday, Oguna said the eviction was agreed upon by senior leaders in the Government to stop human encroachment and protect the Masai Mau Forest.
Yesterday, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, said that the move was not approved by President Uhuru Kenyatta and blamed Environment CS, Keriako Tobiko, and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, George Natembeya, as people behind the eviction.
Murkomen further criticised the duo for ‘disrespecting’ President Uhuru Kenyatta for ordering the eviction without his approval.
But Oguna said the entire exercise was agreed on by all stakeholders including President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Eviction of people from the Mau catchment area has to go on to save this country, but this will happen in a humane manner.”
“The right word in actually relocation of families and not eviction,” Oguna said
“It will uphold the dignity of the people, that's the position of Government,” Oguna added.
