Friday September 20,2019-Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) sleuths have arrested a cleric who used President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘s name to defraud Akasha family Sh 5.5 million by pretending that he could help them return the Akasha brothers from the US, where they are facing drug trafficking charges.
DCI said Chris Mwai Ngweti fraudulently prepared letters purporting to have originated from Office of the President, Foreign Affairs ministry and the US Drug Enforcement Administration authorising the return of Baktash and Ibrahim Akasha from the US.
Ngweti approached Baktash’s wife, Ms Najma Juma Hassan, and promised to secure the Akasha’s return from the US after paying a Sh5.5 million.
After paying millions of money to Ngweti, Ms Najma said he could disappear and show up occasionally with an assurance that all was well and that her husband and brother-in-law would return home soon.
Ngweti was arraigned in a Mombasa court on Thursday and denied all the charges
He was remanded until November 14 when the case will be heard.
