Wednesday September 11, 2019 - Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has taunted former Harambee Stars international, McDonald Mariga, after he was disqualified from contesting in the Kibra parliamentary by-election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) failed to clear Mariga on Tuesday evening claiming that he is not a registered voter in Kenya.
Speaking about Mariga’s disqualification, ODM’s Director of Elections, Junet Mohamed, revisited Mariga's job as a Betin Ambassador and ridiculed him that 'too much gambling is bad'.
Junet, who is also the Suna East MP, described Kibra as an ODM zone and said it was a gamble for the former Inter Milan midfielder to declare his bid in the parliamentary race.
"Being ambitious is one thing.”
“Knowing when and where to launch your ambition is another.”
“Too much gambling is bad.”
“It is no wonder the Government of H.E Uhuru Kenyatta recently banned gambling in our country.”
“Kibra ni ODM," he said.
Meanwhile, Mariga's camp led by former Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, maintains that he is a registered voter and has vowed to appeal his disqualification at the IEBC Disputes Tribunal.
