Tuesday September 10, 2019 - Jubilee Party Candidate in Kibra by-election, MacDonald Mariga, has attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government over the arrest of Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro.
Nyoro was arrested in Muranga on Monday evening and arraigned in a Murang’a court on Tuesday morning.
Nyoro’s lawyer, Irungu Kangata, who is also the Murang’a Senator, said he had negotiated with top Government officials who agreed to drop the charges against the MP.
“Mr Nyoro's charges have been dropped unconditionally.”
“He will not be presented to court after successfully negotiating with Government officials,” Kangata said.
Following his arrest, Mariga said he was shocked by how the Government is harassing an innocent lawmaker.
“The government has decided to run a full gamut of chaos and criminality against Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro and the Muranga people.”
“Nyoro yesterday displayed his commitment to civil disobedience.”
“As leaders, we must deter the bully –boy tactics by the police against any Kenyan,” Mariga wrote on his account.
Nyoro was arrested for causing chaos in a church in Gitui, Murang’a County, on Sunday.
He was accused of threatening former Starehe MP, Maina Kamanda, who attended a fundraiser at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu.
However, some Kenyans are pointing out that this may not be Mariga’s account.
