Friday, September 6, 2019-Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is dead.
Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe with iron fists for three decades, died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnagangwa confirmed the passing on of the veteran politician on twitter.
President Mnagangwa, who replaced Mugabe after the latter was ousted in a military coup in 2017, described him as an icon of liberation a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.
“It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe’
“Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace” Mnagangwa wrote on twitter.
Mugabe was the World's Most Educated President with 7 degrees (2 Master's).
He redistributed land from 6,000 white farmers to 245,000 black farmers, which led to sanctions that crashed Zimbabwe's economy.
Mugabe believed strongly that Zimbabwe was his to govern until the end and he was once declared in a speech before the African Union in 2016 that he would remain at the helm “until God says, ‘Come.’”
