Wednesday September 4, 2019 - The Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) has protested against the rising cases of journalists being assaulted, detained and harassed by Deputy President William Ruto and his mean-looking security officers.

This is after Ruto’s guards manhandled a reporter by the name George Munene on Sunday in Kirinyaga for doing his job.

According to sources, Ruto’s security arrested Munene, beat him up and detained him while covering the DP’s event.

KUJ Secretary General, Eric Oduor, condemned the incident noting that Ruto had not shown commitment in addressing the issue.

Oduor told the DP to instruct his aides to end impunity or else journalists will boycott his events.

“This was the third incident.”

“They roughed up journalists in Meru and Baringo recently.”

“It appears that the DP does not believe in press freedom and the harassment of journalists could have his blessings,” said Oduor.
