Friday, September 6, 2019 - Citizen TV’s senior reporter, Stephen Letoo, has revealed that he fears for his life after receiving threats from unknown people over his coverage of the Mau evictions.
The renowned journalist’s rural home in Narok was attacked by unknown assailants following threats from a section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
The leaders, among them a vocal Governor, claim that the journalist’s coverage of the controversial Mau issue is biased against DP Ruto and have vowed to deal with him.
Letoo has not taken the threats lightly and has reported the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
“It is true, my life is in danger, my home was attacked in the village yesterday, now I'm fearing that they are coming for me," he said.
The journalist’s lawyer revealed that there were several messages that had been sent to various groups, inciting them against the reporter.
"There are several text messages which were forwarded to certain groups and are in circulation and we feel that his life is in danger, that is the reason we decided to have this matter investigated by the DCI," he noted
Kenyans have taken to social media to urge the relevant authorities to accord the journalist maximum security while investigating those behind the threats.
