Thursday September 12, 2019-Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has made a U-turn on her earlier remarks that the Mt. Kenya region is ready and willing to embrace former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Waiguru had a few weeks ago caused a strong in the region when she hinted at selling the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader's presidential ambitions in Central.
However, after scathing bashing from area politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto under the tag Tangatanga, she seems to have made an about-turn in her remarks.
She now claims that the region will support anyone proposed by its leader and President Uhuru Kenyatta, also the ruling Jubilee Party leader.
“As leaders from this region, we will be guided by our Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta on the best way forward at the General Election,” she said in Kerugoya on Wednesday.
However, she advised Jubilee politicians to shun those trying to divide the region, adding that they will only support a person who is for all-inclusive leadership.
In an apparent shot at the DP, who has been opposed to attempts to amend the Constitution to create more executive seats in government, she said that only a person in support of a plan to cater for political interests of many communities shall be considered to ensure that the political interests of many communities are taken care of.
This comes amid claims from the Raila side that a referendum is in the offing, a remark that has irked supporters of Ruto who have termed it a plan to house election losers in government.
