Tuesday August 27, 2019-Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, has said his office is ready to prosecute 80 Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers for allegedly abetting fraud that cost the country billions of shillings.
Speaking in Naivasha on Monday, Haji said his office have enough evidence to nail the suspects who include some commissioners and some senior departmental heads.
According to Haji the rogue officials aided up to 600 individuals and companies to either avoid paying taxes running into billions of shillings or pay less than is due.
“We have a situation where individuals and companies regarded as large taxpayers decided to evade paying taxes. Under the new order, they must pay,” Haji said.
Haji’s statement was confirmed KRA Commissioner General James Mburu who said the probe is at an advanced stage and all culprits will be arrested and jailed.
“I can confirm the probe is at an advanced stage but can’t tell you who is a suspect or witness. Since this is an external and active investigation, I will rather the DCI gives you those details,” Mburu said.
