Saturday August 3, 2019-National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to consult Kisumu Governor, Prof Anyang Nyongo, if he wants to eliminate cancer in the country.
Speaking during the burial of late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, in Fort Ternan on Saturday, Raila said Prof Nyongo, who is a cancer survivor, has a lot of knowledge in dealing with cancer cases in the country.
Raila spoke even as Prof Nyongo said that there is a need to invest in research, education and human resource specialisation to address cancer in Kenya.
Nyongo also poured cold water on the proposal by a section of leaders for the construction of cancer centres across the country.
“We have been talking about building cancer centres, instead we must invest in research, education and human resource specialisation. Let us realise that the job is big,” Nyongo said
The Kisumu County boss also argued that building 'brick and motor' alone will not take the country anywhere as far as the fight against cancer is concerned.
His sentiments were echoed by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who said that there is a need for research in cancer as a strategy of finding a solution to the scourge.
