Tuesday August 27, 2019 - President Uhuru Kenyatta has reportedly authorised the arrest of Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General, John Njiraini, over a mega tax racket involving 600 companies.

On Sunday, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) met Uhuru at State House, Nairobi, where they briefed him on the looming arrest of Njiraini.

During the briefing also attended by National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss, Philip Kameru, Uhuru asked the three to arrest all those involved in the racket including a former Cabinet Minister and 6 Governors.

Uhuru also ordered the authorities to freeze bank accounts of all those involved and ensure that the money they have looted is recovered.

Also to be arrested alongside Njiraini are Julius Musyoki who worked at the Customs and Border Control Department and Wairimu Nga’nga, a former Commissioner at the Legal Services and Border Coordination Department.

Benson Korongo, who was the Commissioner at the Domestic Taxes Department, is among senior KRA officers who will arrested and jailed as well.

The senior officers are said to be part of an untouchable cartel that operated inside Times Tower where large taxpayers like Keroche Breweries parted with millions of shillings to evade tax.
