Tuesday August 27,2019-Former Gem MP, Jakoyo Midiwo has said the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga cannot succeed without input of Deputy President William Ruto, who is second in command in Kenya’s governance structure.
In an interview with NTV on Tuesday, Midiwo, who is Raila Odinga’s immediate cousin, said there is no way Uhuru and Raila Odinga can work without Ruto.
Midiwo, however accused, Ruto of sidelining himself in the Uhuru-Raila handshake deal, which has consequently blocked the Rift Valley region from the country’s development agenda.
“The ‘handshake’ looks like a secret against the DP. There is no way you can build a bridge from Central Kenya to Kisumu without going through the Rift Valley,” Midiwo stated.
“The DP needs to figure out a way to engage, this country needs some kind of peace, we need to elevate the argument beyond the DP. The DP needs to figure out a way to engage,” Midiwo added.
