Friday August 23, 2019 - Deputy President William Ruto’s lieutenants have vowed to ensure that it is the common mwananchi who benefits from the looming referendum.

There are already two referendums looming one led by Third Way Alliance party leader, Dr Ekuru Aukot, and the other led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga.

Aukot’s bill is dubbed Punguza Mzigo Initiative while Uhuru and Raila Odinga are spearheading the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Aukot’s bill pushes for a reduction of electoral seats to reduce the high wage bill while Uhuru and Raila’s BBI is seeking for more political seats.

Speaking in Chesumei on Friday, Ruto’s troops led by Mumias East MP, Ben Washiali, vowed to shoot down the BBI report should it recommend the expansion of the Executive.

"The common principle of making laws in Parliament is reducing the burden from citizens.”

“The only law I can whip MPs to back should be something similar to Punguza Mizigo.”

"We have already seen Punguza Mizigo and we are waiting for BBI.”

“If BBI is not about reduction of burden, all Kenyans including us will reject it.”

“We must reduce the cost of living," Washiali said

Washiali is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.
