Tuesday, August 06, 2019 - A 40-year old woman from Kasarani Estate in Naivasha, has taken her own life after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The deceased identified as Purity Muthoni hanged herself in her sister’s house after arriving from Kenyatta National Hospital where she had gone for treatment.
Ms Muthoni is said to have waited until the sister had gone to work in a nearby flower farm before she used a rope to hang herself.
According to reports, the deceased had developed a growth in one of her breasts and started undergoing treatment in various local hospitals but was misdiagnosed with other ailments.
However, her worst fears were confirmed at KNH where she was diagnosed with breast cancer and then she fell into depression.
“According to the sister, the deceased received results that she was suffering from breast cancer and she went into depression before committing suicide,” Naivasha OCPD, Samuel Waweru, said.
Close friends of the deceased revealed that she had told them she did not want to undergo the pain other cancer victims had gone through.
Her body was taken to Naivasha Mortuary.
Statistics from the Kenya Network of Cancer Organizations show that at least 40,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year and over 27,000 reported deaths globally.
