Saturday August 10, 2019- Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and Chief Justice David Maraga are no longer members of Nairobi Central SDA Church after they dumped it over unending controversies and wrangles.
Emerging details indicate that the two are among top state officials who have since decked from the Nairobi Central SDA church for alternate churches.
The ongoing fighting in church between two rival factions has since attracted the intervention of the police.
Maraga, Matiangi and Justice Patrick Kiage are said to have since moved to the SDA Kerengata church in Karen, with others who have moved out including former Senator Chris Obure and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang.
Other prominent members include Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri who left the church immediately after a scuffle ensued last Saturday, former Principal Secretary Bitange Ndemo, Priscilla Keter who is Energy CS Charles Keter's wife.
The Central Kenya Conference President John Kiragu on Wednesday expelled 15 church members over claims of causing trouble in the church, ahead of the annual camp which begins today (Saturday).
“This is to let you know that the persons named do not belong to the Seventh Day Adventist faith and their names were dropped from our books,” reads a letter to all pastors and churches under the conference.
While attempts to reunite the warring groups have been futile, Nairobi Police Chief Philip Ndolo has warned that anyone who causes trouble in Saturday's function will be dealt with accordingly.
