Thursday August 15, 2019 - A Senate committee chaired by Senator John Kinyua turned to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Wednesday to mediate talks between Taita Taveta Governor, Granton Samboja, and his MCAs.
Samboja had earlier threatened to dissolve his County Assembly after failing to approve the County's budget.
This was after the MCAs cut the Executive’s allocations in favour of the development sector.
Raila, together with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula, are expected to help mediate the deteriorating relationship.
According to reports, the committee also reached out to the Inter-Government Relations Technical Committee for ways to deal with the standoff.
“We want the IGRTC to be involved so that we can engage all of them.”
“This is a matter that involves parties.”
“Therefore, we are also engaging the ODM party leader because majority of MCAs are from ODM.”
“We are involving the party leader in these discussions so that we have a solution,” argued Kinyua.
This comes even as Samboja kick started a drive to collect signatures to petition President Uhuru Kenyatta for the dissolution of the County Assembly.
