Saturday August 24, 2019-A day after President Uhuru Kenyatta cautioned Deputy President William Ruto and his allies against engaging in the political dynasties debate, the DP has come out to echo the same sentiments.
Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County yesterday, Ruto asked media houses to stop twisting the President's remarks on dynasties.
He noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta had expressed himself very clearly, adding that he will not rebel against him.
“The President stated very well that leadership is not embedded in one's tribe, religion, wealth, nor your background. Leadership is based on vision, development agenda and one's dedication and commitment to implement programmes that improve the lives of Kenyans. (Rais alisema vizuri jana uongozi si ukabila, sio mali, sio mahali mtu anatoka. Uongozi ni maono na mipango ya maendeleo na vile mtu anaweza kujitolea aweze kutekeleza mipango na maono na ajenda ambayo inaweza kubadilisha wananchi wa Kenya),” Ruto stated.
In his speech during the 41st anniversary of Kenya's founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru said that leadership is not about where someone was born.
“You know, I don’t know if I will be told that I am speaking politics, but I am not, I promise. I have no such intention, but you know when you hear people out there, you know, they talk, ‘Oh, this person, dynasty this, oh dynasty this’…it is not about that," said Uhuru.
"Leadership is not about where you were born. It is not about where you came from. It is not about the colour of your skin. It is not about your tribe. It is just about a desire to serve — a desire to do good, a desire to make a difference in the lives of people, and anybody can do that," he added.
