Friday August 16, 2019 - ODM leader, Raila Odinga, has come up with three criteria which he will use to endorse the next Kibra MP following the death of Ken Okoth.
Speaking yesterday, Suba South MP, John Mbadi, revealed that the party had the options of going for a secret ballot, consensus or direct nominations.
“Raila Odinga has convened a meeting next week to discuss how ODM will pick its candidate,” Mbadi revealed.
At least four aspirants have declared interest in the seat, with three seeking the ODM ticket after the National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi, declared the seat vacant.
Those who showed interest to run on an ODM ticket are former MCA, Pius K’Otieno, ODM National Youth Coordinator, Benson Musungu, and Imran Okoth - Ken's brother.
Mbadi’s revelation came amidst reports that Kibra residents were opposed to the idea of an outsider governing Kibra, after the death of their endeared MP, Ken Okoth.
In a past interview, ODM Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, neither confirmed nor denied whether he will contest for the seat.
“ODM has not received any application from any candidate to vie on its ticket.”
“I cannot say whether I will run or not,” Sifuna stated.
Several leaders including Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, have urged Odinga to pick Imran Okoth as ODM's flag bearer.
