RUTO now takes a stand on Mau Forest evictions as he warns UHURU to respect his people and not kill them like animals in the name of protecting the forest

Sunday August 25, 2019-Former Bomet County Governor Isaac Ruto has called for dialogue on the impending Mau Forest evictions.

Speaking in Nakuru County on Saturday while flanked by a section of Rift Valley leaders, Ruto said that the Mau issue required a permanent solution that would only be brought about by dialogue.

The Chama Cha Mashinani supremo called on the Environmental Ministry not to deploy officers to kill people in the Mau Forest in the name of preserving the important water catchment area.

He said that there was a better way of resolving issues that need to be resolved as he reiterated the commitment of the Rift Valley leaders to environmental protection.

"We are committed to environmental protection and we are also asking the ministry concerned not to kill our children. Don't kill our mothers. Don't go and kill our parents. Please don't just go and burn houses. Let us discuss,” Isaac Ruto said.

Isaac Ruto's intervention comes in the wake of fears that the Ministry of Environment will deploy security officers to evict settlers in the forest.

The Ministry of Environment has framed the impending evictions as an environmental protection matter.

Those against the evictions say that it has the potential of causing a monumental humanitarian disaster.
