Thursday August 29, 2019-A number of businesspeople from Central Kenya have announced that Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, was the potential successor to President Uhuru Kenyatta, as the region's kingpin.

Waiguru beat Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mwangi Kiunjuri and former Cooperative Development Minister, Joseph Nyaga, who were also highly considered as Mt. Kenya kingpin, to become the people’s favorite.

“We know it’s because of the respect they have for the President that they haven’t declared publicly their interest to lead Central region.”

"But we are well aware of the political games going on silently among them,” businessman Edwin Muchori stated.

Kiunjuri, Waiguru and Nyaga come from Laikipia, Kirinyaga and Embu counties respectively.

Businessman, Gabriel Mwaniki, stated that Waiguru was positioning herself as the first woman political spokesperson of the region.

He highlighted that the looming referendum will ensure a 50-50 power-sharing deal between men and women.

"This is the best shot for Waiguru to rise to the position of the Central region leadership. She is the most preferred person who can take up the position of Deputy President, should the referendum endorsing for the same pass," Mwaniki argued.

Waiguru’s endorsement as Uhuru’s possible replacement in Mt. Kenya region deals Deputy President William Ruto a severe blow, considering that she is now leaning towards former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of 2022 contest.
