Friday August 23, 2019 - National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, is among senior Government officials who are frustrating President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s war on corruption going by what he did on Thursday.
Following the arrest of Keroche Breweries Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tabitha Karanja, and her husband, Joseph Karanja, for evading tax worth Sh 14.5 billion, Raila instructed his lawyer, James Orengo, to represent the couple in court without any fee.
Raila and Orengo are close buddies and the two held a meeting on Thursday and the former Premier instructed Orengo to ensure that the two are set free.
On Friday, Orengo secured the released of the two.
Tabitha Karanja was released on a cash bail of Sh 12 million or a bond of Sh 15 million while her husband was released on a cash bail of Sh 1 million or a bond of Sh 2 million.
According to the prosecution’s charge sheet, Keroche colluded with some Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials to evade tax worth billions of shillings.
