Friday, August 30, 2019- A bar owner in Nairobi’s Joska Estate has narrated how uniformed officers broke into her home and made away with valuables during Census.

The lady identified as Wanjiru Kariuki said the incident took place on the night of August 24 when the 2019 census kicked off.

Wanjiru lives in the back rooms of her bar which also houses one of her househelps.

According to Wanjiru, the officers started knocking on her door pretending to be Census officials and when she refused to open, they broke into the house.

I refused to open the door after they started knocking the door violently, including using doors. They eventually managed to break down the metallic door,” she narrated.

They proceeded to harass a lady who was in the house and one officer was caught on CCTV stealing a phone that was charging at the bar counter.

Wanjiru has now revealed that the officers raided her home after she refused to bribe them with Sh1000 ‘protection fee’ and she has declared that would rather shut her business that bribe the greedy officers.

However, she wants the officers involved to return her phone and other valuables they stole from her.
