Saturday August 31, 2019-Nakuru County Senator, Susan Kihika, has called on Kenyans to reject a referendum that will increase the already bloated wage bill.

Speaking during an Inua Mama rally in Kamukunji on Friday, Kihika said the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was a cynical attempt to create more political positions to reward individuals.

BBI is an initiative spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga.

“We don't want a referendum that will add more burden. Is that what you want? If it comes here you will reject it? (Hatutaki referendum yenye itaongeza mzigo. Mnataka hiyo wananchi? Ikikuja hapa matafanya nini, si mtaikataa kabisa?) Kihika said.

Kihika, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, seems to have endorsed Third Way Alliance‘s Punguza Mzigo Initiative which seeks reduction of high wage bill by reducing number of MPs from initial 416 to 147.

  1. This is one thing i agree with you lady. Kwanza kabisa punguza mzigo ya the two bunges. This must be addressed urgently and i don't care which suffers the cut. The larger of the two in my view should go. Then merge 3 counties to make one. Reduces ministries to no more than 14 and return the role of assistant ministers who shoukld be made to head some departments. Build up the civil service to include grass-root elders who are much better placed and in tune with the villager much better than the MCA. Return some security functions to the reduced but enlarged counties.
