Saturday August 24, 2019-Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has fired a warning to Kenyans planning of crossing the border to Uganda for alcohol during the census period.
On Wednesday, Interior CS, Fred Matiangi said all bars will be closed on Saturday and Sunday during the national census.
Matiangi stated that the closure will take effect from 5pm to 6am on both Saturday and Sunday as Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) officials conduct the census.
Now Busia county residents said they will sneak into neigbouring Uganda to quench their thirst following Matiangi’s order.
But Magoha said it senseless for Kenyans to skip an important event like a census for alcohol drinking.
He pleaded with Kenyans to reconsider their plan and remain indoors for an easy process of people counting.
“We want to urge those intending to cross to Uganda for alcohol to please reconsider because we want to know how many we are and people should be at home during census.
The exercise is very important in helping the nation plan for its citizens,” Magoha said.
