Friday August 9, 2019 - The widower of former Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, has received numerous proposals to choose a family member for the Deputy Governor's seat.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of incoming County boss Hillary Barchok, Laboso's husband, Edwin Abonyo, said the family will consult widely to come up with the best bet.

He was however quick to take note of the regional political landscape and clarified that Rift Valley supremo, Deputy President William Ruto, will largely influence their decision.

This follows a request from Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Mumbi Kamotho, during the burial of Laboso at her home in Kisumu County on Saturday.

"Reason that brought us here is a result of the demise of my wife.”

“We have to accept it as it is and continue with life.”

“There have been proposals that the family gives a name of likely Deputy Governor, but I will consult.”

“It’s clear this is Ruto’s backyard and he will have a say on that," he said.

Abonyo assured Barchok and the entire Executive of his enormous support as the tea-rich South Rift County pick up pieces from where Laboso left.

"There is no contest in this transition, no contestation about you taking over.”

“We will give you all the support- we’ll give you all the support Joyce enjoyed across.”

“We don’t expect you to do things exactly the same way as Joyce did but just keep the focus," he reassured.
