Wednesday August 7, 2019 - Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has reiterated that he is not corrupt saying he is rich so he cannot steal public funds.
Speaking to a business community meeting at Kenyatta Stadium on Tuesday, Mutua said that claims that he has used his position to enrich himself since he ascended to power as a Governor are not only false but also ill-timed.
He said that he has worked so hard to make wealth and those linking him to graft have bad motives.
He was responding to criticisms from former Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama, and incumbent Boniface Kabaka who called on anti-graft bodies to investigate his sources of wealth.
According to Mutua, claims by Muthama and Kabaka have no basis at all.
Mutua, who has hinted at contesting for the nation’s top seat, insisted that Muthama had started the same story when he claimed that he had bought cheaper ambulances to pocket some money but he was cleared of the same.
He further said that he is ready to cooperate with the Ethics and Anti - Corruption Commission (EACC) if summoned to shed more light on his source of wealth.
"All these allegations started with Muthama ... that I bought vehicles ... these people are thick ... I bought vehicles at a low price just to be able to purchase ambulances," he said.
"If I am found guilty please, arrest me, but let them be careful what they wish for as they also have questions to answer," he added
He stated that the two leaders want to use his name to remain relevant in the game of politics.
He, however, reminded them that they are likely to be in for a rude shock when that time comes.
