Wednesday, August 21, 2019 - Motorists and commuters using the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway will not be allowed to proceed with their journeys until they are counted in the upcoming population Census.

Makueni County Commissioner, Mohammed Maalim, has revealed that police will mount roadblocks at Mtito Andei, Emali and Salama townships on the census night to ensure that those travelling are counted.

“Motorists will be flagged down at the three roadblocks to see if they have been counted.”

“Those who will not have taken part in the exercise will be required to fill the forms before they are allowed to proceed with the journeys,” Mr Mohammed said.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i, has ordered the closure of all bars countrywide for two days during the census exercise.

The CS directed all bars and social places be closed starting this Saturday from 5pm to ensure that all Kenyans are at home so that they can be counted.

We are going to going close all our social places especially the bars at 5pm to give you an hour to be home before the enumerators arrive at 6pm so that they can find you at home,” the CS stated.
