Thursday August 8, 2019 – The High Court has today upheld a ruling by Anti-Corruption Magistrate, Lawrence Mugambi, who barred embattled Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, from accessing his offices pending the determination of thre Sh588m graft case.
In a ruling delivered by High Court Judge, Ngenye Macharia, the Judge said it will be absurd and a mockery of the constitution to allow Waititu back in his office yet he is facing grave charges of corruption.
“In as much as they are innocent, it will be a mockery to our constitution with such people, if allowed to continue with dealing with the County jobs,”
“Absurdity will reign if he (Waititu) is allowed to go back to the office.” Judge Macharia stated.
The Judge further directed Governor Waititu to pick a single day to pick his personal belongings from his Kiambu town office but under supervision by the Investigating Officer.
He also declined to review the Ksh.15 million cash bail granted to Waititu saying the charges he is facing are “grave and require stringent bail terms.”
