Thursday August 8, 2019 - A Deputy Governor in Kenya has been evicted from his own house over Sh 1.4 million in rent arrears.

According to a local TV station in a story they aired on Thursday, Kisumu Deputy Governor, Mathew Owili, is currently sleeping in the streets of Kisumu after his landlord, United Millers, closed his house.

The rent, which is supposed to be remitted by the County Government, has not been settled for a period of 14 months now.

Efforts by the Deputy Governor to reaching Kisumu County’s Finance CEC, Nerry Achar, were futile and he was chased away by the County’s security officers.

Frustrated, Owili took his complaints to Kisumu Governor, Anyang' Nyong'o, during a meeting where he was entertaining Ambassadors at the Royal Swiss Hotel.

The Governor, on his part, explained that he was not aware of his tribulations and directed Achar to take care of the situation.

Achar claims that Owili has been receiving house allowance from the County but he wastes the money with different women in Kisumu city.
