Saturday, August 24, 2019-Legendary Kikuyu Benga singer, John De-Mathew, has finally been laid to rest in a burial ceremony attended by thousands of mourners and top politicians including President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mourners paid glowing tributes to the fallen legend whose music career spanned 35 years until last weekend when he lost his life in a grisly road accident.
De-Mathew was a polygamous man and a father of 7 children.
His two wives paid emotional tribute to him that moved some of the mourners to tears.
De-Mathew’s first wife described him as a soul-mate, best friend and the greatest husband.
“I will mourn the loss of my husband, my best friend, my soul-mate and my everything… but, I will find comfort in the knowledge that he loved me to the very end.
Thank you for helping me find love forever. You have left me a piece of you in our children. To the greatest husband and most wonderful friend,” read part of the tribute.
The woman said that when she met De-Mathew, it was love at the first sight and added that the singer’s death has left a whole in her heart that will never heal.
“I don’t have to explain who John was to anyone, but you all know he was a great man and a phenomenon musician.” She added.
The second wife also paid glowing tribute to the fallen singer and described him as the best husband in the world who helped her through thick and thin.
“He was my soulmate and my inspiration – my steadfast rock that helped me through thick and thin. John supported and loved us all, and was always there to help navigate through life’s challenges.
Life could not have been better than that because I was living every woman’s dreams. The best of everything was at my disposal whether I asked for it or not. We had our problems like every family but making up and resolving our issues was magical” she reminisced in the tribute.
