Friday August 30, 2019-At least 25 Women leaders leaning towards President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga's Handshake made grand entry on Friday to Malindi Constituency.
The area is considered as a stronghold of MP Aisha Jumwa, who has since cut links with ODM leader Raila Odinga. Ms Jumwa supports DP William Ruto.
Under the stewardship of Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, the team disembarked at Malindi Airport shortly past 11am and proceeded to Karisa Maitha grounds.
Thousands of handshake supporters led by Kilifi Woman Representative Getrude Mbeyu turned out to usher the team in at the county that overwhelmingly voted for Mr Odinga.
Team Embrace will anchor it's message on the proposed content in the BBI report on expansion of the executive besides preaching peace.
"Team Embrace supports expansion of the executive to accommodate as diverse the interests that plays out during presidential election as is possible," tweeted Seth Odongo.
"The main victims of violence that emerge from the results of every elections have been women, that forms the basis why @embrace_ke is more concerned with messages of no-more-violence after every electioneering period," added Philip Nyamai.
Incidentally, the rally at Kilifi comes amid fallout between Ms Jumwa and Ms Mbeyu. The latter accused the former of pushing her out of Inua Mama group, which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.
“I am an ODM member and I will support our ODM candidate to win the seat. As we speak now, I am from an Embrace rally in Kakamega. The team is coming to Kilifi at the end of this month,” she said.
Ms Mbeyu accused Ms Jumwa of chasing her out of the Ruto camp on grounds that she had “no votes” to offer the DP.
“If a friend tells me that I don’t have any vote to enable the DP to win the 2022 General Election, then let it be,” she said.
