August 26,2019 - Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM) party suffered a major blow on Monday after
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party announced that it will
field a candidate to contest in the November 7th Kibra
by-election.
Making the announcement, Jubilee Party Secretary General,
Raphael Tuju, urged interested persons to send applications to Jubilee’s
National Elections Board.
“Our analysis and consultations confirm that our Jubilee
Party is competitive enough in the forthcoming political contest.”
“It is noteworthy that the neighbouring Lang’ata
Constituency was won by Jubilee Party candidate contrary to conventional
political analysis,” Tuju noted.
Jubilee’s entry into the contest puts ODM in a tight
spot because senior ODM leaders were planning to rig ODM nominations
scheduled for August 31st and give the “highest bidder” the
ticket.
ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, is notoriously known for
issuing tickets to his close associates and individuals who have deep pockets.
