Thursday August 8, 2019-The Law Society of Kenya has preempted a possible cancellation of lawyer Cliff Ombeta's practicing license, due to his recent court theatrics.
The criminal lawyer has been on the spot in the manner in which he has handled the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, refusing severally to appear for the accused.
On Thursday, Stephen Ongeri, on behalf of LSK, said Ombeta is no longer a practicing lawyer, adding that he does not have a practicing certificate.
Ombeta is representing three people believed to have murdered Kimani in 2017. Mr. Ongeri told Justice Jessie Lessit that Ombeta is a stranger to the court.
Last month, he appeared in court with sweat pants, arguing that he was sick. He also confronted Prof Ben Sihanya, who was appearing for Kimani's family.
While addressing Justice Lessit, Ombeta argued that he had been sick, and ended up breaking in court causing confusions for some time.
"What I am ailing from for how long and what it is not important... let my ailment be about me because I am the one who is in pain... please leave me alone to ail...," the lawyer sobbed.
